Meadowhall to enlist thousands of students for World Record attempt at Ultimate Student Shopping Night on April 23

Students from across the region will be putting down their books and picking up their purses this month to head down to Meadowhall Shopping Centre for the annual Ultimate Student Shopping Night.

Thousands of bargain-hungry students have already signed up for the event where Meadowhall’s huge range of fashion, lifestyle and food outlets offer exclusive discounts and special offers throughout the evening. Already on board are must-have brands such as Urban Outfitters, H&M, Jack and Jones, Models Own, Office, Ted Baker and the newly refurbished, flagship store, Top Shop.

And to make the night even more memorable Meadowhall has enlisted the help of Capital Radio Breakfast Show DJ Adam O’Neill to act as host and lead the students in the first ever attempt to grab the world’s largest selfie. Armed only with an iphone and a selfie stick, Adam is going to use his powers of photography and persuasion to get as many students as possible in shot for the attempt.

If hundreds of amazing bargains and being part of a world record attempt wasn’t enough to tempt the students down, Meadowhall has also arranged a retro video games challenge to join in to celebrate the Centre’s 25th anniversary. As a former student from the 90’s, Meadowhall’s own Centre Director Darren Pearce is laying down the gauntlet to the students of today to take him on in a host of retro video games such as Pac Man and Space Invaders.

He explained: “This event is now established as one of the highlights of the student calendar but this year is particularly special as it is the 25th anniversary of Meadowhall first opening. I wanted to mark that with the students and go head to head to see whether it’s the students of past or present who can truly claim to be computer game kings – albeit on retro games where I may have a slight advantage!”

The event, taking place between 6pm – 9pm on Thursday April 23 with record numbers expected in to the Centre from all corners of Yorkshire, including universities, colleges and six forms.

Meadowhall is also celebrating St George’s Day which falls on the same day – April 23. Any student called George, Georgina or Georgia who have ID on them will be able to claim a free healthy juice cocktail from Meadowhall’s popular Boost Juice Bar!
