Parade to take place this February half-term and local dance team take the spotlight
This February half-term will see Meadowhall Shopping Centre get in touch with its oriental side as they celebrate Chinese New Year in spectacular style.
On February 18 and 19 the Centre will welcome the Sheffield Lion Dance Team and dancers from the Wanlin Dance School who will be performing throughout the Centre on both days.
James Sheun from the Sheffield Lion Dance Team shared his excitement of coming to the Centre, he said: “Meadowhall has invited us to showcase our parade and celebrate the Lunar Chinese New year of the Goat. The purpose of the lion dance, besides entertainment, is to bring good luck and prosperity to the watching crowd.”
James went onto explain the rehearsal schedule that had gone into perfecting the performance: “We have been training at our base at the Chinese Community Centre every Sunday for the past month or so, we are really excited to be part of the celebrations this year.”
The Wanlin Dance School will be performing classical Chinese dances including the Uyghur folk dance, and a ribbon dance. Watch out for the dancers popping up across the mall on the 18th & 19th February.
Meadowhall Centre Director Darren Pearce added: “We are pleased to welcome the Chinese New Year Celebrations as part of our half-term schedule, we pride ourselves on being able to provide a variety of activities during these short breaks suitable for all the family and this one will certainly be one for all the family to enjoy.”
