MEADOWHALL JOINS LIGHTS OUT CAMPAIGN TO MARK

P1020998

Meadowhall Shopping Centre was plunged into darkness for an hour to mark the moment Britain joined the First World War on 4 August 1914.

The centre’s lights were dimmed from 10.00pm until 11.00pm in support for the Lights Out event which saw some of Britain’s most famous landmarks participate from the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament through to Twickenham Stadium and the Eden Project in Cornwall.

The project, organised by 14-18 NOW, an official cultural programme for the First World War centenary commemorations, invited everyone in the UK to take part by turning off their lights but leaving on a single illumination for a shared moment of reflection to remember all who lost their lives during the Great War.
