A retired Consultant Surgeon who has raised over £80,000 for The Children’s Hospital Charity, through his charity golf days, is celebrating a special landmark this summer.
Ewen MacKinnon is preparing to hold the 25th consecutive annual golf event on Friday August 1 at Sicklehome Golf Course.
He hopes the day will continue to raise funds for the hospital and this year will be supporting the Charity’s Make it Better appeal. Ewen said: “Over the years the hospital has grown from strength to strength and now the development of new facilities is vital to keep the hospital at the forefront of paediatric care.”
The Children’s Hospital Charity’s Make it Better appeal has been launched to help raise much needed funds to enhance The Children’s Hospital, Sheffield. The appeal aims to create the best possible environment for children to get better more quickly, delivering world class facilities to match the world class expertise already provided, and helping them to get better more quickly. So far £3 million has been donated and raised towards the appeal with building work already starting on site.
The event is open for anyone that would like to enjoy a golf day in the beauty of the Peak District. Speaking of the event, he said; “I think a golf day is the perfect fundraiser because as well as raising money for a really worthy cause people can relax and enjoy the sport and it provides opportunities for company branding.”
Local companies already signed up to support the event include Nabarro, Irwin Mitchell, HSBC, Hamnett Wealth, Henry Boot and Sheffield Co-op to name a few .
He added: “The Children’s Hospital in Sheffield is your local hospital but it is also much more than that. It provides specialist services to the entire region and for several conditions it is a national centre of excellence.”
David Vernon-Edwards, The Children’s Hospital Charity Director, said: “We are overwhelmed by the support that Ewen has given the Charity over the last 25 years. His golf days continue to flourish and it’s great to see how many people have supported the event from the beginning as well as new teams joining the day and raising vital funds for the Make it Better appeal to transform our hospital.”
